Hudson’s History:

Joseph L. Hudson founded the store in 1881 and it thrived during the record growth of Detroit and its auto industry. The Hudson’s flagship store, located on Woodward Avenue, in downtown Detroit, was the tallest department store in the world in 1961. The store was also the second largest store in terms of square footage. Unfortunately, the building was demolished in 1998.
